Residents of the Riverina considering a career as a nurse or midwife are being encouraged to choose a rewarding career with NSW Health, with support available through cadetship and scholarship programs throughout 2023.

The Nationals’ duty MLC for Murray and Wagga Wagga Wes Fang said applications are now open for NSW Health’s Enrolled Nurse Scholarships, Aboriginal Nursing and Midwifery Cadetship Program and Aboriginal Nursing and Midwifery Scholarships.

The programs are available across the state to recent school leavers and people considering a career change.

Mr Fang said the cadetships and scholarships will provide professional and financial support to those interested in taking on these rewarding careers in our world-class health system.

“These programs will significantly boost our nursing and midwifery workforce across our public hospitals to ensure the growing demand for services is met with skilled healthcare professionals well into the future,” Mr Fang said.

“The Liberal-Nationals Government also recently announced our $5 million Rural and Regional Health Career Scholarships Program to attract and retain healthcare workers to the regions by assisting with costs such as relocation, travel, study, or upskilling.

“These programs further expand on our significant investment in healthcare across the state, including right here in the Riverina, with the $250 million redevelopment of Griffith Hospital, the $50 million redevelopment of Tumut Hospital and the $431 million Wagga Wagga Health Service redevelopment. Healthcare workers can enjoy the best of regional NSW while working in wonderful, modern facilities.”

The Enrolled Nurse Scholarships offer a position in the Diploma of Nursing program, cover course fees and lead to employment as an enrolled nurse in a NSW Health facility, following standard recruitment and registration processes.

The Aboriginal Nursing and Midwifery Cadetship Program, and Aboriginal Nursing and Midwifery Scholarships provide Aboriginal people with the opportunity to receive financial and professional support during their university studies.
