The Tasmanian Liberal Government is committed to working with and assisting industry ahead of the upcoming planting, production and harvest seasons to ensure our fruit is picked, our vegetables harvested, our grapes crushed, our cows are milked, our meat is processed and our sheep are shorn.

It was great to discuss latest preparations with representatives of industry peak bodies at the latest Tasmanian Agribusiness Workforce Roundtable today.

Harvest work peaks between November 2021 and February 2022, and we are continuing to partner with industry to ensure Tasmanian residents are prioritised for these jobs.

More than 2000 Job Active Tasmanians have already taken on work in the horticulture season over the past 12 months and early results of the Tassie Harvest Jobs – Take Your Pick local worker campaign are positive.

We're kicking off year two of the campaign, which includes a new seasonal jobs map to help our local workers know the produce, region and timeframes for work. This helps Tasmanians build a picture of the work that can be found across the regions across the year.

As Tasmanian agriculture continues to grow, more workers are needed. We continue to combine the efforts of workers already in Tasmania and seasonal workers from the mainland and overseas to ensure a skilled and effective workforce, local food security, job security and ultimately to fuel our economy.

While interstate and overseas workers supplement our workforce, our priority remains getting locals to fill the picking, sorting, packing, driving and pruning positions.

Tasmanians in need of work are encouraged to roll their sleeves up and help our vital primary industries, while gaining new skills and experience in the process.
